Iodine liquid for platinum

Testing liquid for the quantitative determination of platinum in an alloy.

Manufactured using A.C.S. chemical compounds and triple distilled water were used to make them.

The fluid completely dissolves the scratches on all metals and alloys not containing platinum, but similar in appearance to it, such as: white gold, stainless steel, nickel, etc. On platinum alloys of approx. 0.850 purity the iodine liquid begins to act after about 50 s. On alloys of 0.930 or higher purity, platinum dissolution begins after about 15 minutes. In order to accelerate the reaction at high platinum content alloys, apply heating the test stone to about 50 C under an infrared heater bulb(1-2 min).

If, after removal of the iodine testing liquid from the scratches, the intensity of traces on the test item and the comparison needle is the same, this means that the alloy contains as much platinum as there is in the needle. The more intense the trace on the scratch, the lower the platinum content.
